Titanium Bar + Zirconia: What Your All-on-X Final Teeth Are Made Of

Why ALL-ON-X builds final full-arch bridges on a milled titanium bar with monolithic zirconia, and how IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime, Katana and Straumann n!ce zirconia compare.

Key takeaways
  • Your final bridge combines a milled titanium bar for strength with monolithic progressive zirconia for natural-looking teeth.
  • Pink porcelain is hand-layered to recreate the gum line.
  • The bridge is screw-retained — fixed for you, removable by the clinic for maintenance.
  • We mill in-house from IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime, Katana Zirconia and Straumann n!ce Zirconia GT blocks.

The three layers of a modern full-arch bridge

1. Milled titanium bar

A CAD/CAM-milled titanium bar connects all the implants. It keeps the arch rigid, distributes chewing forces evenly and protects the teeth above from flexing — especially important for strong bites and All-on-6 or All-on-8 cases.

2. Monolithic progressive zirconia

The teeth are milled from a single block of zirconia whose shade and translucency change gradually from the neck to the edge, like natural enamel. Because it is monolithic (not layered porcelain on top), it resists chipping.

3. Pink gingiva porcelain

Hand-layered pink porcelain recreates the gum where bone and gum were lost, so the transition from bridge to lip looks natural.

The zirconia blocks we use

  • IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime (Ivoclar) — gradient technology combining high strength at the base with high translucency at the edge.
  • Katana Zirconia HT ML Plus (Kuraray Noritake, Japan) — multi-layered, highly translucent zirconia known for lifelike shading.
  • Straumann n!ce Zirconia GT — gradient-translucency zirconia from Straumann, suitable up to full-arch restorations.

The block is chosen with you based on your shade, bite and the look you want, using the Ivoclar A–D shade guide.

Caring for a zirconia bridge

  • Brush twice daily and use the water flosser we give every patient to clean under the bridge.
  • Professional cleaning every 6–12 months; the clinic can unscrew the bridge if needed.
  • Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Strength comes from the titanium. Beauty comes from the zirconia. Longevity comes from how well you clean it.

Questions

Is zirconia better than acrylic for All-on-4?

For final teeth, monolithic zirconia is far more resistant to wear, staining and fracture than acrylic. Acrylic (PMMA) is ideal for the temporary bridge you wear during healing.

Why add a titanium bar inside the bridge?

A milled titanium bar makes the arch rigid, spreads chewing forces evenly over the implants and protects the zirconia from flexing.

Can the bridge be removed?

It is screw-retained, so only the clinic can remove it for professional cleaning or maintenance. You cannot take it out yourself.
